Videolaryngostroboscopy

A video laryngostroboscopy is used to help determine the cause of your voice disorder. An endoscope is inserted through your mouth toward the back of your throat and a stroboscope is passed through that. You will then be asked to complete a series of voice tasks. While you are performing these tasks, a series of high-speed flashes from the stroboscope are used to illuminate the vocal folds. Multiple pictures are taken to document the different stages of the vibratory cycle. The images taken during this procedure provide your doctor with a slow motion-like view of your vocal fold vibration during sound production. They can then use this information to pinpoint in what part of the process a problem arises.
