Sacramento ENT’s Dr. Varun Varadarajan was recently interviewed by CBS News to raise awareness about cochlear implants.
While hearing aids amplify sound, cochlear implants convert sound into an electrical signal and send it directly to the brain, bypassing damaged parts of the inner ear.
Dr. Varadarajan noted that while historically, cochlear implants were only used for patients who were completely deaf, today’s technology allows people with residual hearing to receive them as well.
