Rejuvenate Your Appearance with a Facelift or Brow Lift
Procedures like facelifts and brow lifts are an option for anyone who feels that reshaping certain features would enhance their natural look. If you’re considering one of these surgeries, you’re not alone. Facelifts were one of the top five cosmetic surgical procedures in 2020, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.
The decision to receive plastic surgery is often a personal choice. Our providers at Sacramento Ear, Nose & Throat will work with you to determine which procedure will best fulfill your individual needs.
What Is a Facelift?
Also known as rhytidectomy, a facelift is a surgical procedure that reduces signs of aging on your face or neck. It includes tightening facial muscles, removing excess fat and trimming facial skin to create a more youthful appearance. The results from a facelift typically last around 10 years.
A facelift cannot change your fundamental appearance, nor does it stop the aging process.
What Is a Brow Lift?
Along with reducing wrinkles near the forehead, nose and eyes, a brow lift can improve frown lines and raise sagging eyebrows. It involves raising the soft tissue and skin of the forehead and brow.
How Are These Surgeries Performed?
Prior to surgery, your doctor will take time to thoroughly explain the procedure and answer any questions you may have. They will discuss the outcomes of the surgery and any potential complications. During this consultation, you’ll also discuss your goals for your appearance and medical history.
Facelift
Surgery for a facelift typically takes several hours and may last longer if other procedures are also being performed.
Once anesthesia is administered, your doctor will make the incision.
- For a traditional facelift, the incision typically begins in the hairline near the temples, goes behind the ear and ends near the lower scalp.
- For patients with less skin relaxation, shorter incisions are made at the temples and continue around the ear.
- For a neck lift, the incision typically begins near the ear lobe and continues behind the ear.
Your doctor will close the incision with sutures or skin glue. When healed, these incisions blend within the hairline and the face’s natural contours.
Brow Lift
Once anesthesia is administered, your doctor will make the incision.
- An endoscopic incision consists of small incisions along the hairline.
- A coronal incision spans ear to ear across the top of the head and is concealed within the hair.
The incision is closed with sutures, skin adhesive or medical clips.
What Can I Expect After These Procedures?
Your doctor will tell you how to care for yourself as you recover. Initial wound healing will take between one and two weeks. For facelifts, it may take up to several months to fully regain texture, sensitivity and loss of tightness.
Procedures like face and brow lifts are highly individual decisions. Your doctor can discuss what to expect and help you determine if one or both procedures would be a good fit.
