Otolaryngologist

A highly experienced and accomplished otolaryngologist, Dr. Richard Areen has been in practice with Sacramento Ear, Nose, & Throat since 1982. He serves as President of the group. He enjoys caring for patients of all ages with ear, nose and throat problems. He has a particular clinical interest in sinus disease and has been recognized for his expertise in this area.

Dr. Areen uses the very latest techniques including functional endoscopic sinus procedures and balloon sinuplasty to provide state-of the-art treatment for his patients. He is involved in ongoing clinical research studies.

Dr. Areen has served as President of the Sacramento Society of Otolaryngology and Governor of the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. He has been the chief of the Otolaryngology Sections at both Sutter and Mercy hospitals and served on numerous advisory boards.

Dr. Areen completed his undergraduate degree, medical degree and residency in Otolaryngology at the University of Michigan. He was an officer of the Galens Honorary Medical Society. Dr. Areen also completed additional graduate studies in Physiological Acoustics.

Dr. Areen is board certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology and is a fellow of the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery and the American College of Surgeons. He is on the senior staff of both Mercy General and Sutter Hospitals.
