POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Clinical Director and ENT Providers, the Nurse Practitioner shall provide direct patient care for pediatric and adult patients. The Nurse Practitioner is also expected to work collaboratively with the Executive Director and clinic support staff. Duties include but are not limited to performing physical exams and reviewing medical histories, creating patient care plans, administering diagnostic testing, prescribing medications and interpreting lab, x-ray and test results.
Responsibilities:
- Provide ear, nose and throat specialized care to patients.
- Perform comprehensive physical examinations and develop individualized treatment plans.
- Perform minor procedures in office, including but not limited to, nasal endoscopies, cerumen impaction removal, epistaxis control and foreign body removal, endoscopic and stroboscopic evaluation, post operative care.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure coordinated and efficient patient care.
- Conduct pre-operative exams and provide pre/post-surgical instructions and education to patients and their families.
- Utilize electronic medical record system (Modernizing Medicine) to document patient encounters and manage patient information.
- Prescribe medications in accordance with established standards and guidelines.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Minimum Education (or substitute experience) required:
- Master’s degree from an accredited nursing program.
- Must have RN licensure from the State of California and be board certified by either ANCC or AANP.
- Must have prescriptive authorization
- APN authorization in the state of California to practice in Family Health by the Board of Nurse Examiners.
Minimum Experience required:
- 1+ year of working experience as a Nurse Practitioner
- Knowledge of medical procedures and guidelines concerning assessment, treatment, and recovery
- Experience with improvements in innovative medical technology
Skills required:
- Some clinical experience in ENT is preferred but not required
- Ability to provide expert clinical judgment and function independently
- Possession of exceptional communication and interpersonal skills that enable effective collaboration with physicians, staff, community health workers, patients and their families
- Ability to work with little or no supervision, and to take initiative in handling the responsibilities of the post
- Ability to understand complex medical information and clearly communicate it to patients and their families, medical staff, and external customers, in written and spoken format
- Possession of conflict resolution and problem-solving skills to effectively manage conflict in work environment
- Ability to keep all sensitive and confidential information to self and out of reach to unauthorized persons.
